- README.TXT file for FAXSHEET Program
- Version 0.91

-
- These editing screens were written for ease of editing prior to
- printing. Much time is wasted by needlessly re-filling out a FAX cover
- sheet with the same information over and over again. This program
- maintains a listing of all FAX's sent and will generate a nice-looking
- cover sheet.

- ADD/EDIT/PRINT
-
- This menu selection is where most of the choices are. This is a two
- page screen. Page one is where the sender and receiver information is
- input. Page two is where "Notes" are input and displayed. You can have
- up to 20 lines of information printed on the cover sheet. Full
- word-wrap and minor word processing is available.
-
- You will see a sub-menu located on the bottom portion of the screen.
- The following selections are available: Add, Carry, Edit, Delete,
- Order, Turn-Page, Next, Prev, List, Notes, Print, and Return. You may
- use your cursor keys to highlight each selection and then hit Return, or
- just hit the highlighted letter of the selection to choose that option.
-
- --> The first thing you want to do is Add a record. Don't try to
- Edit the blank record on the screen, it won't work. You have to Add the
- first record, and you can later edit it. Add, Carry and Edit work
- basically the same. Press the <Esc> key to exit without saving, or press
- F10 to save and exit. ADD will carry over the sender's info. CARRY
- will carry over the entire prior record, and EDIT lets you modify the
- existing data.
-
- Order changes the way the records are physically displayed
- on-screen. It does not affect the physical order of the data, just it's
- appearance on the screen. You can order the data by Deliver To Name or
- Date Sent. You may want to use List in connection with Order to quickly
- find your data.
-
- Delete is a toggle and will allow you to mark or unmark a
- record/case for deletion. It is not really deleted until you choose the
- Main Menu selection called Clean-Up/Reindex, and there you have the
- option of permanently deleting marked records by "packing" the database.
-
- Next and Prev will step you through the database one record at a
- time forwards or backwards. Turn-Page will turn the screens back and
- forth allowing you to view the current record's contents.
-
- List presents the data in a columnar format. You can't edit here,
- but when you return to the edit screen, the record on the screen will be
- the last record your cursor was at during the browse. Browse presents
- the FAX information in a columnar format. You can scroll horizontally
- and vertically by using your cursor keys. <Esc> will bring you back.
- When you leave the List screen, the record you were last at becomes the
- current record. You can use List to choose/highlight a record and then
- Escape back and Edit that record.
-
- Notes is chosen by highlighting it with the cursor, or hitting the
- highlighted letter "S". You will be taken to a window where you can
- input your information. Press F10 to Save your work, or press <Esc> to
- abort w/o changing the data. This data will get formatted for printing
- into 20 lines of 70 characters.
-
- The following cursor movements are allowable in the Notes option.
-
- Tab TAB
- Up one line ^E/Up Arrow
- Down one line ^C/Down Arrow
- Left one character ^S/Left Arrow
- Right one character ^D/Right Arrow
- Left one word ^A/^Left Arrow
- Right one word ^F/^Right Arrow
- Beginning of current line HOME
- End of current line END
- Beginning of Restricted Language file ^HOME
- End of Restricted Language file ^END
-
- Editing Keys:
-
- Finish Editing F10 or ^W
- Abort editing/keep old info <Esc>
- Delete current line ^Y
- Delete word right ^T
- Reformat paragraph ^B
-
- When the Notes gets printed, the data does get reformatted. Any
- TABS and paragraphs will carry over OK. Anything in excess of 20 lines
- is ignored.
-
- If no data is entered for Notes, no Notes are printed.
-
- Print will let you print the current record. Hit the hilighted
- letter "I" to print. You will be able to print a FAX cover sheet.
-
- Return takes you to the Main Menu.

-
- Clean-up / Reindex
-
- This is where you can permanently remove any deleted FAX's. The
- All-select option is a toggle selecting all or none of the databases.
- The database names available will be shown on the screen and they will
- change color if selected or not.
-
- Select-unselect allows you to select or unselect specific
- databases. The names will change color as they are chosen.
-
- Pack will permanently remove all deleted records from the selected
- databases. Any associated indexes will also be updated to reflect the
- new status of the databases.
-
- Reindex will only update the index files. No records are removed.
-
- Quit returns to the Main Menu.
-
-
-
- Monitor Set-Up
-
- This selection allows for the user to select the appropriate
- monitor and color combination for their system. An LCD screen would be
- the third selection, ie. Black and White. Press the down arrow twice
- (you are already at the first selection) and press Return. The screen
- will clear, and now the colors will be in black and white and you can
- see the hi-lites better. Whatever you select here, will be saved and
- become the current setting when you next begin the program.
-
-
- Printer Set-Up
-
- This selection allows for custom printer strings to be used. The
- program comes distributed with this option set up for Epson 24-pin
- printers. This should work for HP ThinkJets and Diconix ThinkJets as
- well as many other printers that emulate the Epson. If you have a
- different printer you will have to find the manual for that printer and
- enter the Decimal values for these functions. You're pretty much on
- your own in this area. You can call for some help, but since we haven't
- tried a wide variety of printers, we can just provide general
- information; not specific codes.
-
-
- Return to DOS
-
- Choose this to QUIT the program.
-

-
-
- The Hewlett-Packard ThinkJet printer should have the DIP switches
- set as follows -- [ U = Up / D = Down ] It must be in the "alternate
- mode."
-
- Switch 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
- Position D U D D U U U D
-
- The Diconix 150 printer, should be set with all DIP switches set
- "down" EXCEPT switch 6 which should be "up."
-
- The program has been tested and known to work correctly with the
- switches set in these positions. The program is written and optimized
- for the Clipper compiler. The program should be run in an environment
- which was booted to DOS with the following statements in the CONFIG.SYS
- file --
-
- V E R Y -----------------------> FILES=40
- I M P O R T A N T -------------> BUFFERS=20
-
- If these commands are not in your config.sys file (refer to your DOS
- manual for an explanation of config.sys), the program may exhibit
- erratic behavior.
